Applications for the 2010 Intake Open May 2010
RVTS is not currently accepting applications for entry into the program. Applications for the 2011 intake open in May 2010 (exact date still to be announced). Twenty-two places are available nationally for 2011, seven more than previously thanks to additional Federal Government funding.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for entry into the program applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident, with Australian or New Zealand qualifications or AMC certificate.
An applicant who meets one of the following criteria may also be considered at the discretion of RVTS and dependent on the availability of places:
In addition, all applicants must:

currently, or at the commencement of training, work and reside in a remote location and a single doctor town, or a remote location and in a town where the medical services would be substantially compromised by their departure to undertake training;

have an expressed interest in a career in rural and remote medical practice; and
- continue to reside and work in a rural/remote community for the majority of their training (except for approved hospital training and advanced skills posts).
The following additional criteria will also be considered in assessing applicants:
Remote/rural practice is rural practice in communities over 80 km or 1 hour by road from a centre with no less than a continuous specialist service in anaesthesia, obstetrics and surgery and a fully-functional operating theatre.
Doctors meeting the above criteria or who anticipate that they will by the commencement of the training year in February 2011 are encouraged to apply at the next intake.
Selection is competitive and involves written application and interview against set criteria.
