Recognising obesity in children is not as easy as you may think and requires measuring and plotting weight to identify those at increased risk. Addressing the topic in a non-judgemental way gives the best chance at formulating a management plan that can be implemented to produce positive results. Employing parents as agents of change and encouraging whole family engagement in management strategies is recommended. Programmes like Go4Fun can be utilised, but simple strategies are discussed that can be encouraged by the GP.
